I was looking into ideas on using alternatives to traditional floral bouquets and found so many cool ideas that I decided to break this post up into bridesmaids, men, and bridal.
First of all, let me disclose that I LOVE flowers. I love how a talented florist can create so many beautiful and personalized touches with flowers, herbs, and the seasons. Some of these ideas can be in place of traditional flowers or can be added as accents to bouquets. You may choose to have your bridemaids include flowers in a head piece or wrist corsage or eliminate their florals altogether. Flowers can add up quickly so remember these ideas if you need to reign in your décor budget, too.
Your wedding should be a reflection of you. Your individual likes, your heritages, your family, your love story….. Your flower or non-flower choices are a great way to highlight these.
Having your party carry Pinwheels is perfect for a whimsical ceremony at Glen Echo Park. For a sunrise or sunset ceremony, opt for lanterns or candles. As an avid reader, one of my favorites is the image of the book (lower right). I love how they tied a string through it to make it easy to carry like a purse strap. For a religious ceremony, have your party carry prayer books or rosaries.
Giving your bridesmaids a lovely clutch purse to carry also doubles as a gift they can reuse, especially if it is a neutral color. Silk fans or parasols are another unique option that look beautiful in photographs. Celebrate the season with herbs in summer or fur muffs in winter.
My best advice is to just relax and be creative. This is an opportunity to have fun and play around a bit.
